Le Mot du Maire |
|||

A word from the Mayor |
|||
This event is an important component of cultural development in La Gaude, expression of the democratization of culture and cultural democracy. The exhibition "La Gaude: City of Contemporary Art" shows the desire to respect the very essence of DEMOCRACY: the participation of everyone in the development of common interests in art. |

If there is one messianic duty for the mayor, it consists of listening carefully to the true opinion – a power that cannot be ignored- and its different forms of expression. The latter supported by the forces of citizenship that have always led me to be aware of the missions you have entrusted in me. In this sense, I initiate the event "La Gaude: City of contemporary art" to make culture a strong action in your municipality. |

« La Gaude Cité d’art contemporain vous metamorphosera » |
|||

“La Gaude: City of Contemporary Art will transform you “ |
|||
Do not look at this event as a revelation on the metamorphoses of environments. Art does not contain the answers to life’s questions. However, it can free you from placid contentment and from the taste for unnecessary emphasis. Art remains an alternative to vanity and to all the preconceived assessments. So stop concealing your souls and join La Gaude the 23rd and 24th of October. By appropriating environments, human behavior seeks to control them vehemently. However, those environments are constantly molting and cannot be fully apprehended because they are capable of sudden changes, to such an extent that it is they that dominate us. By occupying spaces, we search for regulation and balance. Yet, we act without really being the cause of what happens. Any system specific to a certain environment has its own movements, that we can influence without controlling them. Similarly, P. Valéry said of the human consciousness, that it prevailed but did not govern. The thinking being always gives the obsessive impression of going towards a specific goal that one assumes is reasonable, but in truth, he often seems to be walking in dreams too often inept, sometimes exhausting and especially endless. |

Our imaginations dress environments, but environments and their transmutations are divinely more "imaginative" than us. As there are a multitude of powerful hazards, from underground worlds, inevitable ambivalences, we are just as influenced by exogenous as we are endogenous vital forces. Undoubtedly, we are more determined to build - as a vain defense mechanism - an illusory representation of fate. |
